I have been playing alto more ring games lately and was just wondering how much should I buy in for? I play mostly .10/.25 ring games where the max buy in is $25. I usually only buy in for $10-$15 not because I don't want to overplay my bankroll but mainly because I don't want to end up with AA or KK early on and lose $25. One hand that I remember is I have $8 and I have KK and raise it to .85 pre-flop with 2 callers and I am on the button. The flop came Jd 4h 5c, everyone checks to me and I fire out $2.25. First person to act folds and the next person does a min raise. I only have about $4.50 left at this point so I push all in and he calls showing 4 5. I lose!! So maybe I wouldn't have re-raised all in if I had $25 or maybe I would have lost more or maybe I just play AA and KK wrong. Not sure if this is the best strategy and was hoping I would be able to get a little advice in this area. I know this league is full of excellent tourney players but if anyone has some advice on rings I am all ears. see you on the tables acpittboss

As far as I'm concerned, ALWAYS buy in for the full amount!!!
Not only that, but if I'm on a good table, i will keep it filled, to maximize profits when i get a good hand.
If you are worried about losing more money and that's the reason you are buying in for less, maybe you should drop a level(maybe to 10nl).
I don't claim to be a poker expert, but i know that you can't play with scared money.

Very prophetic DOC, and an excellent question AC... I'm going with DOC on this one....If putting in the $25 as the full amount is a bankroll killer, then you really should drop down a level. Don't get sucked into the trap, "well that level is beneath me," because it's real easy to do! If you can only afford to lose $10, then the 10c/20c is where you should be. I don't think you are playing AA or KK wrong. I've played with you enough to know you play them well, but beware of those treacherous high PP's and overvaluing them. We all have seen them get cracked plenty! In ring games, sometimes I will have to lose $ to make it. There's really no getting around that, but if you play a solid "A" game, YOU will prevail in the end! All In, Randy C~

I think that is one of the biggest changes from sng's to rings. A pair of aces can have alot more value in the sng's depending on blinds. I personally love it when people overplay their big pairs in a ring because I can play my suited connectors and small pairs and take someones whole stack if I hit a nice flop. Remember, they are only 2 cards, and make sure you are looking really good at the flop what comes out and the way they are playing their hand. I am not saying that you played the KK hand wrong because you didn't, it was just a tough beat with the 45.
