I generally play 2 different types of games when I get on a poker site. Either (STT) or sit and goes or (MTT's) or multi table tournaments. Very rarely do I play cash games because I personally don't like playing them. Some people love them, but I'm not crazy about them.
MTT's are great because for one fee, you can play in a tourney against many other player's and if you play well, use a sound strategy and you get a little luck on your side, you can make a bit of money and potentially...a lot of money. However, they will sock your Bankroll if you go on a bad losing streak.
Sit and goes or STT's can range from 2 players to 10 (although they now have many MTT STT's...lol... where there are several tables for one cost.) I prefer the 10 person sit and goes, because I believe they are GREAT bankroll builders. If you win consistently on sit and goes as I do, you may never have to make a deposit at a poker site again, AND you can reward yourself every so often by playing in a MTT with some of your winnings.
I wrote an EBook called Strategyfor Winning Online Poker . In The book, I outline a progressive strategy that rarely fails if applied to the "T". Here's the basic premise.
I suggest that people start off by playing the lowest stake STT possible. On Bodog, that is $4.40. Once a person has played and earned $50 from those beginner tables, they should progress to the $5.50 STT's. When the player earns $100 they can progress to the next level which is $11.00. They should play the $11 STT's until they earn $250...and so forth and so on. Be sure to give yourself a reachable "goal amount" for the next levels...and progressively work your way up slowly.
If a person loses more than 50% of the previous winnings, then they should go back to the previous level until they earn the "goal amount" for the next progression.
During this time, I suggest that the player "reward" themselves with an entry into an equivalent MTT. For example, if you are at the beginner level and have made $50, then play in a $4.40 MTT or beginner tourney. If you are at a $11 level then you can reward yourself with an MTT with an $11.00 fee. However, those reward are the only time you should play MTT's when you are building your bankroll.
If you follow this simple progressive strategy, then you WILL make money at poker. I would say that 90% of poker players who use this strategy will never have to make a deposit again....EVER!
The problem with this strategy is that it is a rigid guideline and must be followed exactly as laid out, or otherwise you will find that it will not work. It is NOT a get rich quick scheme and you will find that it is hard work, but if you use discipline and follow it exactly, then you won't lose.
Try my method out for 3 months...and if it works...I want 10%!!! <laughing>
