There is so much confusion about how one should play their stack. The choices are pretty clear and how you play your stack will ultimately determine where you find yourself at the final table. Here are some general points on how you should play your stack in a sit and go.
A short stack is obviously at a disadvantage, so they have to do some catching up. It's important that the short stack play a little bit looser in order to gain any chips. Many short stacks will get so low that they find themselves being blinded out and this can be prevented...By loosening up a bit and calling in the right spots, you can gain some extra chips to make it to the money. Remember that chips are your lifeblood in poker. If you're the short stack...don't wait for the chips to come to you...ATTACK, and go get them!
Medium stacks should maintain their position by playing the way they have. As the table gets low on people, the mid stack should become a bit looser and bet more aggresively. Be cautious of the big stacks. Don't find yourself with a mediocre hand in a hand with these giants because if they are playing correctly, they will make you wager your entire stack.
The monster stacks should play their hands aggresively, and make those short stacks pay to play. The monster stack should always be the aggressor and try to steal as much as possible from the lower stacks. Look for weakness and attack it aggressively! Raising and reraising is an importnant tool for the big stack, and they need to use it often in order to get to the final table with a good amount of chips. Remember...chips are power!
