I had always thought of myself as a strict No Limit Hold Em player who wouldn't play any other type of poker game at all. That was my mistake. I limited myself to one type of game and as such never learned any other types of games. In my opinion, it is important to learn and play other poker games because you see more types of hands and, as such, you must adjust accordingly, thus opening up an entirely new repatoire.
If you are strictly a NLH player, then I suggest that you try both limit and pot limit games, because they are close in strategic principles to that of the NLH variety. When doing this, you learn the value of different hand options that can be used, and therefore the variety of hands that you will play and how you play them are realized.
From those games, I suggest a player move on to another closely related game; Omaha. In Omaha, there is a few different types to choose from. There is Omaha high, where only the high hand wins, and then there is Omaha hi/lo which is where the hi hand wins half the pot and the lo wins half the pot. This type of game will drastically change your outlook of poker and especially of NLH Texas Hold Em altogether. You will begin to realize that poker is not so narrow and that tere is a complete kaleidescope of games that may suit you even more than that of NLH.
Try them out and see...If anything, it will improve your NLH game drastically. If you're a true poker player, then you will want to be versatile in different games so that when it comes time to make a run for a bracelet, you won't have to compete in a field of 10,000 to do it!
