No matter what...In anything, practice is a real benefactor and this is particularly so in poker.
When I first started playing poker, I played some really crazy stuff. I was not a very good poker player at all. As a youngster, I watched as people took money from me with relative ease. I had to grow up fast, and I knew that the only way that I would become a good, or even decent poker player, was by practicing.
I have found that as a result of my online play, I have become a better all around poker player...especially in my brick and mortar games. I have noticed that I have a much better ability to "read the board" and I don't get sucked in easily as I once had.
Statistically, playing online poker is a way for a poker player to see more hands than if he/she were to go to a casino and play. This is one of the reasons why I am such an advocate of online poker. You can literally see thousands of hands in a week, and each of those hands that you are involved in is "experience" that you have gained. It's information that you can later use to make decisions during a game.
I play approximately 15-20 hours per week or more, and that play has helped me to grow. It's all practice...and it has benefited me in ways I cannot possibly convey in a single post.
In our league, I have seen people grow to become OUTSTANDING poker players and have really come into their own. Here are just a few that I have personally seen benefit:
dalesbad29 - Danny has really come a long way. He started out in our league placing somewhat low in the standings, and in a short few months, Danny is presently 3rd in our league. This is a VERY impressive record.
TripleB333 - Burke was a regular at the beginner tables making a name for himself on that scene, but when he started out in our league...He took off! Burke is now 2nd in our league.
Amarillo55 - This guy has really impressed me! Amarillo has been playing poker for about a year now, and he is unreal. He has literally become one of the most powerful adversaries at our league tourneys and I, for one, don't like to go heads up with him...He is really very good.
There's really many more that I could list, but my point is this... Practice really does make perfect. These players I mentioned above play on a regular basis and have developed into some of the best poker players at their respective levels.
Being able to play for a few hours a week will translate to unbelieveable rewards, and will help your game improve dramatically!
