Just wanted to stop in and speak out on a subject in poker. I have noticed a few things on the tables lately that I just had to talk about. OK your in a hand in which you have the nuts or dam close to it. Youve studied your opponents habits and patterns and have a firm grasp of strategy they are playing. The hand comes to the river and you have the best hand. Now this isnt hard to figure out. Say for instance you have an ace high flush with no pairs on the board. You have THE best hand no doubt about it. Or another example would be having the highest possible set with too much room in between the remaining cards. Or better yet you have the best possible straight with only two of any suited cards on the board. You have THE best hand. Now to the point of the article here. I see so many people betting all in when they have the best possible hand. Others are smart enough to realize this and back down from the all in. What say you just bet the original bet at the turn lets say 300 chips. Your opponent will be more willing to call the smaller bet to see if maybe just maybe they can win it. They might have two pair or a set and will risk some but not all. My thoughts are this if I have the best hand no matter what, then I will try to get the most out of it that I can. Even if that means sliding in the min bet on the river. Lets say you go all in and everyone folds, yes you won the hand but, they might have paid off some more with a lil tiny bet on the river. Having done this you have attracted a call from a smaller less dominate hand and added to the overall pot. I mean come on guys when in a sitngo or tourney do you hit a real nice ace high flush. I am a firm believer that you must get all you can out of an opponent as the next hand might go his way with a not so happy outcome. Often times i will slide in the minimun bet on the river and get an all in reraise on the bluff. Mostly i get the call that I want and in the process I have added a few more chips to the pot. I mean why not come away from a hand with 1580 versus 1480. You never know that last 100 chips you got might be the amount you need to squeek past the blinds to place on the short stack. Also it might be just enough to take out the guy who has just a bit less than you. All and all I just want to say if you have the best hand let your opponents make you show it with low bets on the river and less all ins. The payoff will be greater and thats what we want, more chippys. Burke
