Yes...I am furious beyond ALL comprehension, because a DONK of "GINORMOUS" proportion decided to bet me out of a hand that not only would I have won, but would have secured me (and the donk) a spot in the WSOP qualifier tourney tomorrow night at Absolute Poker. Why do I even bother trying to explain the entire premise behind the infamous "checkdown", because it more often than not...falls on deaf ears!
But here it goes...Simple logical odds really. When there is more than 2 people in a hand and a shortstack has gone all in and 2 or more players have called, those players who are still in should checkdown the rest of the betting in order to INCREASE the odds of getting the Shorty OUT!!! I don't think I make that any clearer than that. Tourney poker is about elimination, and the more people who are eliminated the closer you get to the money
Now, there is an exception to the rule; and that is that if you have the nuts, or are d**n close to having the nut hand, then and ONLY THEN should you bet at that pot. In some instances I have lost the hand for the greater good or the greater cause which is TO GET THE SHORTY OUT!!!
I have written about this before, but it really bares repeating...and it just so happens that this type of poker ettiquette is my pet pieve. If you ever want to see MassPoker rant and rave...this breech of ettiquette will certainly do it...lol!
Now, for the record...that DONK I spoke of above...Neither he or I were able to secure a spot in the WSOP qualifier...and you'll never guess who took us both out...The irony here; the very player who I could have knocked out had the DONK not betted me out of the hand took both he and I out after a miraculous comeback.
The only consolation I got was that I at least got the bubble money of $56...so at least I didn't leave empty handed!!!
All In,
