I'm a firm believer that memory and recall is one of pokers greatest tools. I'll never forget being at a poker tourney 2 years ago and there was a man there who was truly incredible at recalling cards that had been played and the way in which each player played those cards. I remember thinking to myself that it would be incredible to have a brain like that guy, because he was winning and winning big. In fact, this guy was winning so much that many people got up from his table and stood in the Foxwoods line for another table...and that often takes an hour or better!
Recently, I stumbled across this great site called the Memory Gym. This site is free and it takes you through a battery of lessons, and then takes you through a series of flashing cards with numbers and words, and you must recall them all. Well, I'm glad to report that I am slowly improving my memory, and seeing a dramatic difference in how I play poker. First, I'm using "links" between people and patterns. I started out using notes, but as a live player, it's difficult to pull out a pad of paper and besides, while you are writing the notes, you're missing some of the action!
Just thought that some of you might want to give this a shot. It's a lot of fun, and it's a great tool for poker. Let me know what you think of this, too...
All In,
Randy C~
